snow... and more snow

let me start off by saying that i personally like snow.
however there is such a thing as too much of a good thing.
3 and a half feet of snow in less than week is a lot for delaware.
and the local media is trying to scare us by saying there is more in store for Monday.
its only a 50% chance at this point.

but really we cant handle it.
our three snow plows and 4 salt trucks are taxed to the limit
my daughter has been home with me all week.
i am so ready for a break.
i never thought i would say that i am tired of Scooby Doo.

but i have watched soooo much scooby doo in the last 4 days.

Vacation

So last week I was on Vacation.
I went to Florida - specifically Disney World.

I had one of the worst experiences in my life this time down there.
It was COLD. I dont mean 40 degrees and raining cold, that I could have handled.
I mean it was 20 degrees cold.
What the hell? Its Florida its not supposed to get that cold in Orlando.

But anyway we didnt bring mittens for the girls because we didnt think it wasnt going to be that cold. I had hats for them. But they were packed as an afterthought for me on the way down and back. But no gloves or mittens or scarves for them. And all I had was a decorative scarf for me.

To make matters worse the Disney Marathon was going on. Now we knew it would be crowded. We knew there may be some issues. What we didnt know was that all Buses to Epcot were not running because that was where the Start and Finish of the Marathon was.
This caused unending problems for us.

We started the day at 7:50am to get to a 9:15am breakfast reservation.
At this point the Marathon was in full swing. We were informed at the bus stop that the buses werent running but we could take the boat.
We waited for 45 minutes on a dock on the water in freezing temperatures and wind for the boat. We finally got on the boat to the Magic Kingdom where we were supposed to be able to catch the Monorail. The express was NOT running. So picture hundreds of ppl crammed into a little space waiting for 2 monorails to go between the Magic Kingdom and the Ticket/Transportation ctr. We waited for Half an Hour then they finally started running the express monorail. At this point we get on and head over to the ticket and transportation center the girls were so hungry. We had brought no snacks for the girls as it was supposed to be a 10 minute bus ride. There was a woman there who was a spectator for the Marathon who had brought snacks for her family and was nice enough to share some pretzels with the girls. Yes the spectators who were following the marathon were riding the same monorail as the general public.
Finally we make it to the Ticket and transportation center to switch over to the Epcot Monorail. There are thousands of ppl waiting for the Epcot Monorail.
By this point it is 9:15am. And we arent even at the parks yet. We wait in line in the exposed area of the center without gloves and no real pockets for the girls. But they do have their winter coats on. Their little faces were so red and both girls were hungry, cold and impatient and crying. I call to switch our reservations to a later time 10:55am - this was the first thing to go right all morning. After 45 minutes in line we get on the Epcot monorail. We finally make it into the park around 10:00am. Remember this was supposed to take 10 minutes and took over 2 hours.

We had a bit of time so we spent it looking for gloves. The first 3 stores we checked were all sold out of kids gloves. Finally in the World Showcase we found gloves that would fit the little ones in Norway. Since we were there we went ahead and checked in early. We made it through the ordeal. There was a lot of crying involved and everyone was cold cranky and hungry by the time we made it too breakfast but Breakfast was good and the girls got to meet all the Princesses and have their pictures taken with them.

But there is one thing I have learned: No matter how many of my friends are going to be in the Disney Full Marathon, Half marathon or 5k - I am NOT going to disney during marathon weekend again...unless me my daughter or hubby is running in it.

I'm just curious is all. I was reading something today and they asked all their contributors Wha'ts the best thing anyone ever taught you to do, and the answers were very interesting.

So its just my natural curiousity about who people are and what they do, that makes me want to know the answers.

Every year I do a post about how much the armed forces mean to this country.This year is no different.

Today I was listening to Preston and Steve (wmmr 93.3 outta philly) and they mentioned an email that a soldier had sent them. It made me realize we are all in this together

Civilians dont realize how much they play a role in morale for troops who are overseas.
Thoughts and prayers, thank yous and care packages go a long way in reminding the troops of why they do what they do. So thank your veteran and military personnel.

Here is a poem and it explains why there are poppies being given on Nov 11 in the US and worn all over the world in remembrance of those who died serving their various countries.

Lots of things have happened in the last month.

1st no more pink yay but I hope you all understand the importance of self boobie exams and early detection and treatment for Breast Cancer.

2nd halloween was fun we went trick or treating - silver was tinker bell ... again. we have pics somewhere.

3rd not this past friday but the friday before I was in another goddamn car accident.
So as an attempt to thwart being ass ended by yet another suv (yes all three accidents involved an suv of some sort), we went out and bought... a SUV its a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer. So far I like it.

4th I hope everyone had a great Halloween and now its time to look forward to Turkey Day I mean Thanksgiving. So think about what you are thankful for. There will be a quiz later on in the month.
Ok not really but it sounded good.
But I always find it helpful to think of the things you are thankful for it makes life a bit better.

5th Remember Nov 11th is Veterans Day if you see someone asking for donations and handing out poppies please help out. Vets need help and all the donations go directly to vets in need.

Oh there has been knitting but Ive not been inspired plus I hurt. So no new knitting news to write about.
And because of the accident I was unable to do Alumni Band hopefully next year.

Saturday we went out for my birthday to Hibachis (love them) then I went to go see Paranormal Activity. I liked it. Im not much for Horror movies this one was not that bad.

Oh yeah GO SEE ZOMBIELAND!!!!!!!! dont take the kids.

I finished the blanket - you know that pink thing...

I am making other things now.
I am contemplating opening an etsy store and selling things.
But I need to build up some inventory first.
Just a little:)

Sunday was my birthday so I went out and went drinking and watched the skins lose to the chiefs. that SUCKED!
But overall I had a good birthday
Now I am working for a coworker. I worked monday night and am working tonight

I will be back on Days on Thursday.

Halloween is coming up and Im excited but I still dont know what I want to dress up as.
Any suggestions?

Mine have been insane!

But there has been much knitting and reading.
Yes I actually took time off of knitting for Reading.

If you are into werewolves and vampires and tawdry romance novels I suggest you pick up the series by Keri Arthur on Riley Jensen The first book is called Full Moon Rising Highly recommended.

Im going to try and be better about this updating thing.

I am doing well (now) I had a 3 day stomach bug but I am fine now.

I have been making hats. Crocheting them. I find it interesting and easy.

I am also making myself a shawl thing for a wedding I am in this weekend its really pretty. I will post pics when I get it done (probably after the wedding)

I have discovered the joys of the steaming the crap out of a knitted object and seeing how it grows and changes and looks more professional. Yes I am talking about steam blocking.

For those who dont care about the knitting aspect.
I have been busy working and getting ready for this wedding I am in this weekend.
It should be a blast
The munchkin will be at my parents for 4 days. So Hubby and I are free to Par-Tay!

I have been so busy. Parties, Working, knitting, football.
The fun never ends :)

At any rate I apologize for not posting more.
I have finished some projects.
I made some socks and a steering wheel cover and im working on another project right now - not sure for who yet.
I also am working on doing something different this year. i am going to start stockpiling projects.
baby sweaters, scarves, blankets, things like that.
So if you are someone close expect that you might get something handmade this year:)

I am so busy the next month i have something to do every weekend for the next 4 weeks and then I go to florida for a week.

OBAMA HAS WON THE ELECTION!

As if this came as a surprise to anyone.

On a related note on Monday Night football the redskins lost. this normally would bother me.
However the skins have a way of predicting the whether the GOP takes office or not.
They have a 99% rate. If they play on Monday night before the election and win the GOP will win the election if they lose the Dems will win. The only time this has not happened was when W was elected. but Gore really won the popular vote in that election anyway. So it still holds true.

So in that spirit Pittsburgh beat the Skins 23-6 and Barack Obama has become the first African American President of the United States. He appeals to many and his pick of Biden for VP won him the state of Delaware.

This year we had the highest voter turnout I think ever.
I heard on the radio that a poll in philly received more people by 10 am then they did 4 years ago.

Thats something. that tells you something. It tells you the country was fed up and wanted to make a difference.

Oh and the Dems took the senate as well.

For all of you who voted Thank you.

Dont forget next week is Veterans Day. I will hopefully be posting before then with pictures of halloween and stuff. I will definitely post on Nov 11.

Football and Voting

Ok first things first tomorrow it is your duty as a citizen of the United States to go out and vote for the next leaders of our country, state, county and city. This is the biggest presdential election we have had in almost 2 decades. I dont care who you vote for but for the love of God Vote. We are still fighting a stupid war in Iraq so that these people could choose their own govt and not be ruled by a dictator.
The right to vote is a right just like freedom of speech, religion, and even the small things. Like where you decide to eat, where you send your kids, where you live. These are all decisions we are able to make because we live in a free country. And as a citizen (a person over the age of 18) it is up to you to decide who leads this country into the future. Not just the president everyone knows about that. But your state and local gov'ts as well.
Your local govt decides what taxes you pay and where in the state it is spent. Do you get new roads? Or better pay for teachers? Its up to you to decide if you want to keep the current govt or if you are ready for a change. But let your voice be heard.
If you choose not to vote you have still voted. You have voted to let someone else determine you future and the future of your children. By not voting you are still participating, you made a decision but you have a choice - its called living in a free country- Many other countries do not the same luxury.
If you do choose not to vote then you forfeit your right to complain about the next 4 years.
So VOTE tomorrow November 4th

This is Delaware Congressman and former Governor Mike Castle.

I just turned 31. He has been dressing up as Frankenstein since I was a little girl about 8 or so is when I remember. He told me yesterday its been longer than that. The same guy still does his make up. He is a tall guy I should have had someone stand next to him.

Oh well. Things you remember. But I love the fact that he is willing to do this EVERY YEAR.

He has been a wonderful leader for this state. I really like him as our congressman as well. (We only get 1 cuz we're small.) The rest of Delaware must agree as we keep voting him back to Washington every year.

This was at the Halloween Parade yesterday in Newark it was a lot of fun.

Knitting has been done but I keep forgetting to take pictures of it:)

Ok guys Im sorry its been so long since I have posted.
I have been addicted to facebook.

Josh and I celebrated our birth-a-versary this week in Disney world in FL.
And despite some financial mishaps ( DONT EVER RENT A CAR FROM DOLLAR - we got hit with so many hidden fees including a 15%overcharge they didnt tell us about)
We are doing surprisingly well.

I am back at work.
Oh I found glow in the dark yarn and I have made a scarf. I have not take a picture of it yet but I promise you will get both light and dark shots of it.

So if there is still anyone hanging around how are you doing?

Im still knitting - trying to decide on what to do about christmas and what and who to knit for.

Oh yes Boobaloo wanted me to remind everyone its breast cancer awareness month.

Glow in the Dark yarn and a restaurant review

I have found Glow in the dark yarn and it really glows in the dark
It comes in different colors but only glows green. Thats ok though.
Its acrylic and is washable. Its made by bernat. now i need to figure out what to make with it.

But its pricey-
My friend and I went and we each had a soda and a combo which is half a sandwich and half a salad or a cup of soup and it was about 20 bucks for the two of us not incl. tip.
They have an ok menu selection guiness stew is 16 bucks.
a little pricey but it should be a good portion size.

I suggest going but not on a regular basis.

The drink specials seem ok though.

go to the polls and vote.

The women were innocent and defenseless, but they were jailed
nonetheless for picketing the White House, carrying signs asking for
the vote. And by the end of the night, they were barely alive. Forty
prison guards wielding clubs and their warden's blessing went on a
rampage against the 33 women wrongly convicted of 'obstructing
sidewalk traffic.'

They beat Lucy Burns, chained her hands to the cell bars above her
head and left her hanging for the night, bleeding and gasping for air.

They hurled Dora Lewis into a dark cell, smashed her head against an

So, refresh my memory. Some wom en won't vote this year because- why,
exactly? We have carpool duties? We have to get to work? Our vote
doesn't matter? It's raining?

Last week, I went to a sparsely attended screening of HBO's new movie
'Iron Jawed Angels.' It is a graphic depiction of the battle these
women waged so that I could pull the curtain at the polling booth and
have my say. I am ashamed to say I needed the reminder.

All these years later, voter registration is still my passion. But the
actual act of voting had become less personal for me, more rote.
Frankly, voting often felt more like an obligation than a privilege.
Sometimes it was inconvenient.

My friend, Wendy, who is my age and studied women's history, saw the
HBO movie, too. When she stopped by my desk to talk about it, she
looked angry. She was--with herself. 'One thought kept coming back to
me as I watched that movie,' she said. 'What would those women think
of the way I use, or don't use, my right to vote? All of us take it
for granted now, not just younger women, but those of us who did seek
to learn.' The right to vote, she said, had become valuable to her
'all over again.'

HBO released the movie on video and DVD . I wish all history, social
studies and government teachers would include the movie in their
curriculum. I want it shown on Bunco night, too, and anywhere else
women gather. I realize this isn't our usual idea of socializing, but
we are not voting in the numbers that we should be, and I think a
little shock therapy is in order.

It is jarring to watch Woodrow Wilson and his cronies try to persuade
a psychiatrist to declare Alice Paul insane so that she could be
permanently institutionalized. And it is inspiring to watch the doctor
refuse. Alice Paul was strong, he said, and brave. That didn't make
her crazy.

The doctor admonished the men: 'Courage in women is often mistaken for
insanity.'

Please, if you are so inclined, pass this on to all the women you know.

We need to get out and vote and use this right that was fought so hard
for by these very courageous women. Whether you vote democratic,
republican or independent party - remember to vote.

History is being made.

Football...and Knitting..

so last night started football season.
All I have to say about the game is WHERE ARE ALL OF MY FIRST DOWNS????????!!!!!!

Knitting- I have been steadily knitting away on baby things.
And crocheting. I have also found a pattern for two needle socks and I have made myself a pair and a half of socks:)

Any rate its time to start thinking of charity knitting for the winter...babies, homeless, soldiers. Im going to knit for all 3 anyone else?

I saw Santa Claus today...

I wish I could have taken a picture.
But apparently in the off season Sant drives a red jeep liberty and lives in Delaware.

I saw him so did my daughter.

He had a wheel cover on the back with an air brushed pic of Santa on it and yes Santa was driving...

He had two stickers one said "Got Toys?" and the other was one of those Town stickers (white oval with letters) and it had NP on it for North Pole.

It really made my day to see Santa Claus.Yes I am amused by simple things.

I learned to knit from my grandmother when I was around 8 or so. But I didn't start really knitting again until 2003 when I was working nights for 12 hours monitoring networks.
I decided I needed to pick up a hobby that kept my hands busy.

We went to a bar/restaurant and the bar area had this really weird odor - kinda musty kinda bad.

I made a sock of my own and they are ankle sock and I love them

Just wanted to say hi.
Been busy knitting and going on vacation and things.

July 4th weekend was awesome. The orioles game was great. The munchkin slept from the 4th inning until we left in the 8th inning.

The beach was fun we went to the beach and the pools
The hubby and I went and saw IRON MAN finally --- and I must say I loved it!

Otherwise things have been busy.

Munchkin starts preschool the end of August.

Anyone know what to do about a headstrong 3 yr old who wont go to the potty at home?

Ive started working out again.
no progress to report yet but i just started wednesday.

the hubby and i have been watching a lot of baseball. we decided on the orioles.
they are close to home and we like watching them play. we are actually taking the little one to a game on july 4th.

i get a real vacation this week starting the 4th. i cant wait.
5 days at the beach.

Memorial Day - LTC Fred W. O'Nions USAF (Ret)

Another Memorial day and another time to remember those who have served our country. This year I am actually remembering one in particular.

On May 16, 2008, I had the privilege of seeing someone who was an inspiration to me laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery. LTC Fred W. O'Nions USAF (Ret)

LTC Fred W. O'Nions (the colonel) was a special man. He had been a navigator in WWII and when he was finished with his Active Duty service he became a JROTC instructor. He shaped the lives of many a young teenager. He affected so many people as shown by the amount of people who were able to show up to see him to laid to rest. The Colonel as the cadets called him was always full of happiness and bad jokes. Even when he was in a bad mood he would still find a way to make people laugh. He would always find time to talk to you about whatever and he always had worthy advice. Even if it didnt always make sense at the time

He tried to teach his cadets things that they would be able to take with them whether they went into the military or not. Leadership, Diplomacy, Survival skills and how to direct traffic at football games and other events:) Although Colonel I still wish I could have got the recipe for your raccoon chili - although I think I will survive without it.

At his service there were many cadets, ranging from his very first class in 1979 to his very last class in 1999. The Colonel made his mark on all those he taught. I have many fond memories of high school and most of it is because of JROTC and the friends I made there. I learned a lot from the Colonel and from his partner MSgt Grady Wilson.

The Colonel will be sorely missed. But he led a great life and I hope wherever he goes next that they like bad jokes.

I will offer this to you if you have never been to the Arlington National Cemetery you need to go. Its a sobering sight to see all the people who have died for our country. And the other part to this is there is still room for more.

So this memorial day while you are BBQ'ing and throwing back beers and playing with your family and friends please remember those that gave their all so that we could have this holiday and the freedoms that come with it.

I ask you also to take a moment and think of those that are overseas still fighting in a war that most dont agree with. If you see someone in uniform be sure to thank them for defending our country and for helping other countries to try and be free. If you see someone selling poppies please buy one. That money goes to helping those who are in the Veterans Hospitals. They need all the help they can get.

Please have a safe weekend and enjoy your loved ones.

Fisherman in the making

Silver won her first trophy yesterday.
Every year my Dad puts on a fishing derby for kids up to age 18.
There are several age groups. Silver is in the 9 and under category.

Yesterday started off well. It was nice at my house, so even though there was a chance of rain I still got up and decided to take Silver fishing or catching as she calls it.
We were a little more than halfway there when she threw up.
It came out of nowhere, with no warning of my tummy hurts or anything. I think she just may have had too much sugar and not enough real food.
At any rate, after she got sick we pulled over at a gas station and changed her clothes.
She said she was feeling better and her tummy didnt hurt so i asked her if she would still like to go fishing and she said yes.
So we continued on and then it started to rain.
So I asked her again if she wanted to go fishing in the rain and she again said yes.
So we continued on... we stopped at my parents house threw the dirty clothes in the washer, grabbed the fishing rod and continued on to the derby. (Even with all of that we still made it in time to register)
The first thing out of Silvers mouth when we got there was I want a trophy.
So I said ok well we have to go catch some fish.
She said ok. Through the rain and it getting chilly Silver did remarkably well.
The rain did not seem to bother her too much at first but then it got chilly and that bothered her. So I wrapped her up in my coat and we continued fishing.
So the fishing went something like this - I would cast the line out for her and she would reel it back in and I would cast it back out and she would reel it back in. Whenever we got a hit I would help her reel it in but she would let go and make me do it.
After the first fish she was so excited she wanted to tell Grampy so we went and told him and she asked him - Do I get my trophy now? (I love my toddler)
After every fish she would ask this question :)
By the the time she was done (which was almost an hour before the end of the tourney) she had caught 6 fish this way and she is only 3.
I was impressed.
The biggest fish she caught was 11.5 inches it was a white perch.
She tried to reel it in by herself but couldnt because it was too heavy so i had to help her out.
She will be getting her picture in the local paper with this fish.

And guess what? She got her trophy. They go by most fish and the first place in her age group got 16 fish. The 2nd place got 7 and she got 3rd place with 6 (can you imagine how many more she would have got if we had continued to fish in that last hour?)

Her grampy was so proud- as am I!

I cant wait to take her surf fishing this summer.

Detroit

We just got back from Detroit and I have a TON of pictures.
I will have them posted in the gallery hopefully by tomorrow. I forgot the camera today:)

Anyway we had a blast.
Saturday we went to the Childrens Science Museum in Detroit and then had a big dinner with the family.
Sunday we went and saw Hubbys cousin graduate from MSU engineering dept. and we had another big dinner with the family out at the restaurant.
Monday we went to the Detroit Zoo which is awesome and I had a blast. They have a butterfly exhibit which was my favorite part and Silver liked it to. She had a butterfly land on her shoulder and mommy was quick with the camera and got a couple of pictures.
Monday night we went to a baseball game.

Yesterday we went to Dodge Park which is a really nice park and then we came home.

And so because of the wonderful things we did over the weekend I gained 4 lbs.
So I am back to eating the way I should be:)
And hopefully I will lost the weight again.

I hope everyone is doing well dont forget Mother's Day is this weekend.

Its been a busy month.
I have steadiy been losing weight again. I have changed my eating habits and cut down on the amount of carbs I have been eating. I call it low carb my current chiro calls it normal carb:)

Whichever way you look at it I have lost 6 lbs in 2 weeks.
And I am ecstatic!

So I have told you all about the amount of pregnant people in my life correct?

But look at all the babies I have to knit for...yay I like knitting for babies!

But many other things to talk about - I will go into more detail later but real quick:

We went to AG Day at UD on Saturday - Silver got to ride a pony.
We went to Longwood Gardens yesterday and Silver ended up wet and with no shirt on.

And overall it was a fun weekend.

I also finished the crochet bib I was working on. I made what was sposed to be a flower and it ended up looking like a fried egg:) But it works...

So I am tired. I worked Saturday from 5a -12p and I am working again now from 11p to 7am

I was covering a shift for someone.

And today I get to spend the day with my family on only a couple hours of sleep. it should be fun... wish me luck:)

I am a night person I love the night and always have.
I hate getting up in the morning. And the daytime is always so busy and hectic.
Everything slows down at night and becomes peaceful and quiet.

It gives you time to think and to be creative.
Im not going to be on nights for that long but for now Im enjoying the quiet.

Knitting Update

Knitting update

I finished the mittens
I made a hat
I made a dishcloth and a dishtowel
The felted bowl is felted but needs to be felted more.
The baby bolero needed to be ripped out and restarted.

I am also working on a felted box... im not sure how it will turn out since everyone is so intent on bowls and not boxes... i like boxes... I have an idea... we shall see how it pans out.

I am working ridiculously weird hours right now. But I have wednesdays off and I love having a day off in the middle of the week.

I have started going to the gym again (yes i am sore but its that good kind of hurt)
My goal is to lose 5 lbs this month (I have had no luck cutting out soda. I like it too much) But I am going to try again.
Lets see what was it last year I lost ten pounds in 3 weeks just by cutting out soda... thats incentive right there.
:)

Ok so thats really all that is going on in my life. The munchkin is 3 now and a total brat.
But I love her and we are working on the listening thing.

Alright time to get back to work:)

well this tuesday has been (knock on wood) pretty good.

my leg and back are bothering me and i had a funeral to go to on sunday but today is not that bad.

i have updated my links on the right side. i have added my wish list. i know its a bit presumptious but i really did it so that i can access it and see what books i want at any time. but you know if you want to buy me something feel free i wont stop you :)

thats all for now. oh on the knitting front - not getting a lot done but i have had to wait for yarn :) so now i will be able to continue.

I am still around. I have been busy at work and other life things.

Lots of things to knit this year. Lots of people having babies. Have I mentioned I like knitting for babies?

Also I have joined an organization called socks for soldiers - that is ongoing thing so I will try and get as much knitting done for them as i can. Right now my goal is a pair of socks a year (i dont like making socks) but this is for a good cause and I want to help.

Happy Holidays everyone.
Some things that have been going on...
LOTS of KNITTING! All but one of my christmas knitting projects are done
LOTS of SHOPPING! Everyone has been shopped for.
LOTS of Wrapping the shopping....:) all the gifts are wrapped.

But also we did some painting. My daughters room is now pink.
It used to be orange. For those who know me this may come as a shock because you know my relationship with the color pink... unless its on a little girl or promoting breast cancer (check your boobies - see how i worked that in there ;) ) i dont like the color pink. but my munchkin is a little girl and i love her very much - so when i asked what color she wanted her room to be, pink is the color she chose. (i was not unsurprised by this mind you.) Now I have some pics but dont have them with me. So I cannot post them now. But I do have before and after pictures. And I will post them after the holidays!

Baseball, Mitchell Report, Steroids and my hero Pete Rose

I want to preface this whole post by saying that in 1989 when world series earthquake hit, I was still watching Baseball. On Oct 17 1989 I was watching the game and all of sudden everything started to shake on tv and the picture went out I heard sound - sort of something like - I think we are having an earthquake. Then Roseanne come on. And I was PISSED! It was the day before my 12th birthday.

I continued to follow baseball until 1994 when baseball went on strike.

Since then I have only followed it half heartedly. When the Red Sox won the World Series for the first - I watched all but one game.
And I have watched baseball every once in awhile since then.

However growing up I actually had a baseball hero and it was Pete Rose. (yes i was a phillies fan - he and Mike Schmidt were two of my fave players)
For those of you who know me now may find this amusing as I am now a HUGEMONGOUS Football fan.
But I still have a soft spot in my heart for Pete and Baseball (so much so that i watched wrestling for the longest time just to see if pete would show up at wrestlemania ;) )

Anyway to get to the point as you may know the Mitchell Report was released yesterday naming multiple players who were substance abusers and who are potential hall of famers.
Roger Clemens being one of them (he denies the use though- um duh of course he does but Barry Bonds is another one.)

My beef with this whole substance abuse thing is that players have been doing it and lying about it for years. Now a lot of people will say that it shouldnt matter because you still have to have talent and blah blah blah. But Pete Rose bets on baseball specifically bets on baseball for his team to win and yes he lied about it , but now he has been denied entrance into the Hall of Fame until all of these people who are blocking him are no longer on the committee and those who could give two shits about his gambling are able to vote him in.
Does this constitute him not being allowed in the hall of fame?
he never cheated, didnt use drugs and yet we wont let him in to the Cooperstown because as a manager he bet on his team to win?
But there are players that are in the hall of fame or will be in the hall of fame because they used steroids or blood doping. Does this make them less or more evil then Pete? Pete confessed to lying, he has paid his dues in my opinion.
This makes no sense
So here is my question - if Roger Clemens is found guilty of violating the baseballs substance abuse policy that was in place at the time (and I hope he isnt because he is a good athlete) should he be denied entrance into the Baseball Hall of Fame? How about Barry Bonds?
How do we know that if these players didnt use the steroids or blood doping that they would be hall of fame athletes ?
How do we know this report is even legit?

Ok so all that rant really leads to my point which is-that I think the Hall of Fame committee needs to reconsider letting Pete Rose into the Goddamn Hall of Fame.

Sad Football News

I know most of you who read this dont watch football but today is a sad day.

I am a redskins fan and have been for a long time.

Shawn Taylor was a great player for the Skins. He was quiet but was very good at what he did. This morning he passed away as a result of being shot in the leg at his home on sunday night. Someone broke into his house and fired two shots and he was wounded in the leg.

This is sad on so many levels, he was starting to breakthrough as a great athlete, he was engaged to be married, he had a little girl, and he was only 24 yrs old.

Please keep his family and the team in your thoughts.

Hi sorry I havent written. I have been limiting my time on the computer because of my injuries.
Its been almost 2 months and I dont really fell any better. My left shoulder and my left side of my back still hurt. I still get the tingly sensations.

Pretty much everything hurts....or at least it feels that way. And it effects pretty much everything I do.

The car is fixed. There was around 2600 dollars worth of damage done to the car.

I have been working half days but my dr's have decided (and work is ok with it) that i take the next month off.

I have obtained legal help as well. I know a lot of you have asked me about that.

Anyway I dont want to say to much but just so you know I am still around and will answer replies/emails:)

I will update when I can.

This past weekend was supposed to be fun in the sun, fishing, maybe a trip or two to the boardwalk. Maybe a night out with the hubby to see harry potter. And lots of time at the pool with my munchkin. Yes we were supposed to go to the beach.

Instead my weekend started out with me spending 4 hours in the ER because I got into a car accident. Someone rear ended me. I am generally alright. I can walk but sitting or laying down hurts. Most of the time I hurt.
They suggested I keep mobile, not to overdo it but just not become a couch potato. So I went for a walk which was slow and painful but done anyway. Saturday afternoon I tried to take a nap but couldnt. Sunday Joshs parents came up for dinner. It was good to see them - I gave them pics from NH.
I had off work Mon and Tues to make drs appts insurance calls and car visits.
Get this I cant see my dr until next tuesday. There is only one dr in the office out of 5 who sees accident victims, at least for the initial visit. And he is on vacation. No backup.

So I decided to go see my chiropractor. Who could see me right away and took XRays. Nothing is broken but I am all out of whack. I cant knit for very long. Monday I couldnt sit in one spot for more then 10 minutes and laying down hurt my chest.

Today I am sore all over. And things go tingly. I am getting ready to go see the chiro again.

The car is damaged as well. Not sure how badly but they deemed it unsafe to drive.

So that was my weekend Oh I did finish Harry Potter:)

Dogs and things to think about...

I had this great post I was going to post. It was about my grandmother and how she inspired me to knit and read and all sorts of other things. Her birthday would have been July 16 and if she were still alive she would have been 102 this year. But in light of some recent things that have made it into the news that post will have to wait a couple of days.

As you know I have animals. I love animals. I am also a HUGE football fan. Well some things have been brought to light in the last couple of weeks about Football and Basketball players involved in Dogfighting. Dogfighting in and of itself is bad enough. Dogs fighting other dogs or other animals until they can longer fight anymore or they have killed the other animal. But the humans who promote this activity are far worse than the animals killing each other. Owners of these animals have been know to shoot, electrocute or even drown the animals. The reasons for this are in response to a dog not fighting fiercely or aggressively enough.

These animals are being bred to be mean, they are being mistreated. Because the wounded animals dont get appropriate medical care so they often die of the wounds or of infection several days later.

Dogfighting is illegal in all 50 states. Some states still consider it a misdemeanor though.

As is if Micheal Vick, who is the one being indicted of these crimes in the NFL, is found guilty the maximum sentence is 3 yrs and a 250, 000 dollar fine.

One of the other things that was brought to light during this investigation is that small children are often in attendance at these dogfights. This breeds insenstivity towards animals and makes them think this sort of thing is ok. And it most definitely is not.

The people who do this have no respect for animals or for life. They will sometimes use bait animals to train these dogs - bait animals being small dogs, rabbits, cats. It turns out that these people are not all back alley people. They are athletic stars the we look up too. They are people in the public eye, that little children look up to.

So I am still alive.

This weekend was fathers day. I gave hubby the weekend off. Silver and I went to visit my parents at the beach. It was fun. My daughter is becoming such a 2 yr old.
She loves the sand... well she loves to sit on a towel or a chair and loves to play on the sand and pour sand all over her. But she doesnt like to walk on the sand.

She cried every time I tried to put her down in the sand. But by the end of the day she was walking on it ok. She still wasnt happy about it though.

She was really scared about the water. I asked her if she wanted me to wash her feet off in the ocean and she said yes so I took her to the water and she was latched on and would not let go but I got her feet wet and got some of the sand off... she was not happy she cried and said no mommy no... can we go see grammy and grampy please (they were up on the beach away from the water) so we turned and went back up and she said bye bye bye ocean.
When we got back to the chair, she sat down and pointed to the ocean and said ocean.
My mom asked her if she went in the ocean and Silver said yes.
Mom asked her again if she liked the getting wet in the ocean and she said yes

So this is where I determined my daughter is a fibber.
Oh wait I already knew that.

But overall the weekend was fun and I think she had a good time.

I know I did.

I will try and update more as well but its difficult with how busy I am at work.

Oh yeah there was knitting. I finished my socks. I finished the pillow for my daughter.
I am making 2 baby blankets. 1 is almost finished I will have it finished at lunch today the other will take a little longer.

I have some other projects going on but not a whole lot right now.

Memorial Day

I know I usually do these write ups for Veterans Day. I looked back and realized I havent written anything in the past for Memorial Day. And this year is a good year as most people arent really talking or thinking about the war going on in Iraq and yes it is still going on in Afghanistan.
Whether you approve or disapprove of the war is not my concern. My concern is that you remember the troops that are over there fighting an unpopular war but they are doing good things as well. They are rebuilding the countries - schools, hospitals and historical places.
We never really get any good news. And you actually have to look for it at times.
Now I will be the first to admit I choose to ignore what is going on over there because I know I will lose sleep at night if I think about it.

But I always think of those who are in the military doing a job noone else wants to do and doing a job that a crazed religious freak wants them to do.
The troops always need your support and the military families at home need your support even more. They have one or more loved ones over seas for months even years on end. I know the military tries not to keep people over there for more than a year but I also know how soldiers are and they re-up to stay over there. Leaving their families to fight for the greater good. The families are strong but they are only so strong. So if you know someone who has a spouse, child, sibling or parent over seas in the military please give them some support. Whether its offering to do something for them, watch the kids, cut the grass or just offer a shoulder. Im sure it would be appreciated.
Remember the war is not the fault of the soldiers it never has been and never will be. It is always decided by someone in a higher authority.

Please dont forget those who fought before either. The veterans out and about selling poppies or asking for change. They fought to make this country free and even though you may not agree with where the country is headed at this moment remember the people have the power to make changes. Thats what makes this country great. So thank your veteran today. Remember those who have fought and died and more importantly remember those who fought and lived. They deserve it.
So while your enjoying the nice summer weather and the bbq's and being with family take a moment to remember those who came before to make it possible for us to have these days off.

To those POWs or MIAs you are not forgotten.

k so what we have here is knitting content.

This is my felting project: Its a bag :) Its shaped a little weird like I thought it would get smaller in width but it got smaller in length instead. Oh well live and learn. I didnt felt it aggressively either. I handwashed in the sink with lots of dishsoap. hehe i should have take a before oh well.

Dont mind the mess. I like the bag though I think I am going to make a pocket on the inside.

These are christmas stockings - it was a "commision" project - the one on the left was the original and the 2 on the right are the "copies".

This is my daughter in the midst of her books at my moms house.

So there you go.

I have been very tired this week and trips to the gym have been 0 but I am planning on going to tomorrow morning because I dont have to be at work until 10a.

I dont have lot else to say:)

Ok so weight loss update... yeah i havent lost any more. I still weigh 165 and Ive had some issues working out because of time and health.
But I am still working out.

Ok onto more important things. This weekend went well. GGE was nice and the food was good and Silver seemed to have a great time. And GGE was happy to play with Silver and didnt realize she would be walking and talking because the last time she saw her was last year before Silver started walking on her own.
GGE had a kids plastic baseball bat and balls and we were trying to teach silver how to hit the ball it was fun and she got a kick out of it.

On the way home we stopped somewhere near Lancaster and took a potty break and went to Joann Fabrics and hubby bought me some yarn so I could finish my felting project.. hint its a bag..
I did get knitting done. I finished half of a baby blanket(i ran out of yarn for that project but i had more at home)
And I got the bag half finished now i am working on a flap and then i will sew it all together and felt it. And hopefully it will come out well:)

And then we were on our way and we stopped at little restaurant in Oxford called Margheritas. It was good. We got Silver chicken nuggets and chips and i got broccoli, a baked potato and mozzarella sticks. Silver wanted my broccoli and not her chicken nuggets. So have you ever heard anyone tell a 2 yr old -honey eat some chicken and then you can have the broccoli? yeah me either - it was really funny.

Oh I forgot to mention the torrential downpour we came home in - with thunder and lightning and my daughter slept through part of it
But we made it home ok and all was well.

Yesterday was mothers day/ We did the family thing and it was good. I ate too much at my moms
Silver was good but didnt want to take a nap so she was a little cranky
she did fall asleep on the way home however.
And I got more knitting done.

I have been here really...

Work keeps extra busy and when I get home Josh is on the PC and I want to play with Silver or I want to knit... *gasp* i dont actually want to play with the pc at home (oh no revoke my geek status :) )

Anyway the exercising is going well. I am still going to the gym in fact my free month was up and I joined the gym and promptly got sick and didnt go for 5 days. I went today and I feel so much better. Hopefully this will keep me from feeling so tired in the morning.

Free Comic Book was a success. There were 1500 people there. It was a good time.
After the events we all went to dinner it was good and fun. All I have to say is Herr Dowling is a trip after a few beers. We played multiple rounds of name 5 of something.

After dinner Josh, and I and another couple went to see Spiderman 3
Now I wont spoil it for anyone who hasnt seen it... but I will say this: it is a good movie but it is not the best. They tried to put too much into the movie.
There was background plot but I dont think there was enough buildup.
They could have done so much more with venom and sandman and even Harry - it is a long movie already.
But if there is a 4 I will go see that too.
It had some awesome parts to it.

Knitting
I have done some knitting - Ive been working on Christmas Knitting. Stockings to be exact.
And I am making a bag for myself... it is a felting project - so we'll see how it goes.... :)

I am planning a stitch and bitch this month and its a themed snb and its surprise so i cant say too much but needless to say it should be fun...

This weekend we are planning on going up to State College PA and visiting Joshs grandma.
It should be an okay time. Plus 3 hours in a car - I get to KNIT woohoo!

Its Warm!

Spring has showed up. There are flowers and showers and warm weather and birds and bouncing people running in skin tight clothing... which distracts the boys to no end. I fear for my hubbys safety when he drives by campus on warm days. But so far so good.

Anyway I had a little excitement last week at work and not in a good way. My coworker ended up having a siezure while at work. It was very scary because it was so unexpected. She had just got done talking to her daughter and telling us she was going to have leave early. So she got up to get her coat and things to leave, and in my peripheral vision I saw her go around in a half circle (she kind of looked like a dog when they go around in circles before they lay down) and then I saw foam coming out of her mouth and she made a grunting noise and then fell down. I was on the phone and was not quick enough to get to her to help her to the ground.

I let the guy on the phone go and told him Id call him back. I called 911 as M helped her and K went down to tell Security and everyone else he could find.
From the time I called 911 to the time the first emts showed up was 10 minutes. She was starting to come to by this point but she couldnt talk and she was looking very confused.

She has high blood pressure but no history of siezures. So it was kind of a surprise to her and us as well. But she does have a family history of them - she is filipino and they are in the azores and apparently there is some sort of thing that affects people from the azores and causes seizures.

Anyway she is doing well now. She is going to get an eeg today but she is out of work for awhile but otherwise she is doing well. Now the reason she was leaving work early that day was because her daughter is 91/2 months pregnant and the dr had said that she would be going into labor in the next couple of days. Well it is now Wednesday and still no baby but they think she got so stressed out about her mom that she went backwards... well now ive always been under the impression when stressed it could bring on labor... but im not a doctor. And of course she is not due until may 14 anyway but she keeps dilating and she will have the baby soon.

Her name is Caitlyn (Katie for short) and she was 8lbs.
I have made little booties for her I just need to add buttons and get them to her.

So lots to talk about.

I lost a pound.

My thoughts go out to the families and students at Va Tech.

But thats really all I want to say because I dont want to go on a tirade.

So all of my heart issues are actually related to my Thyroid. I am now feeling much better with the upped dosage of meds.

So much so last night I went to the gym and upped all the weights on the machines. Yes it hurts today and tomorrow might be worse but how else am I going to build muscle? I think the reason I hurt is I did not stretch very well last night.

Anyway I got some knitting done. I finished the baby blanket for my coworker. made a belt for my 2yr old. Started another lap blanket for me at work. Its almost finished, Oh and I made cute little booties for my coworkers soon to be granddaughter. . And I have another couple of projects I need to start soon.

I have officially completed the YFC - I bought no yarn for 3 months - woohoo!

Now lets see... i need to go to joanns, and micheals... and... ok im just kidding.
even though i did not buy any yarn i still received yarn from people.
A coworker brought me yarn that her aunt had belonged to her aunt - and my aunt in law brought me yarn and needles and unfinished projects that her mother had been working on before she passed away last month.

So yes I inherited yarn but it was unsolicited.
But if you know someone who has inherited a yarn stash (inc needles and crochet hooks) and doesnt want it anymore....well let me know i will gladly relieve you of that.

On another note.
Its been exciting here the last couple of days there was an old abandoned warehouse next to our new bldg that burned down monday morning. It was so hot and so close to our bldg that our bldg was evacuated. It smoldered for all monday and almost all of yesterday and the fire truck is still there just in casse because i think there are still hot spots. So it was really interesting to see the firefighters and everything that goes with putting out a fire. I believe yesterday they were also trying to do an investigation but its hard to tell.
Now they are beginning clean up and demolition of the bldg. We all wonder whats going to go on there.
So with the firefighting and the tremendous amount of rain we have had the parking lot behind the warehouse is flooded this is the parking lot for the DCCA. The delaware center for ? arts.

Ok I need to get back to work.

Real Quick

I still weigh 165 but that may change read on...

So heres whats been happening. A little over a week ago I went to my dr to get my thyroid checked out. She listened to my chest (like they do ) and she listened to my chest and she listened to my chest...after 3 minutes I asked shouldnt you be done listening to my heart? She said yeah I hear some funny palpitations. So she set me up to have me checked out for any heart problems. I had an ultrasound on my heart and I had my thyroid levels checked. I also had to wear a heart monitor for 24 hrs. After all of this I believe all is well with my heart.

My thyroid levels however are way out of whack. And because of this it can be causing the palpitations and the other symptoms I have been having.
So she is doubling my dosage of meds. And hopefully in a week or so my levels will be back to normal:)

I took my first dosage of double meds and I already feel a ton better. My chest still feels weird but it is not reminding me every minute that it is there (which is good).
So hopefully I will also start losing weight because if your thyroid doesnt work - well then you dont lost weight.

But dont ever underestimate something - it something doesnt feel right please go get checked out. It wasnt my heart this time...

Remember heart disease is the number 1 killer of women before breast cancer, before lung disease.

This past weekend - was StPattys Day it was awesome... I drank too much and got 2 hrs sleep on saturday but it was still a lot of fun.

This weekend we are going to a party and then i am going to a stitch n bitch saturday night. should be fun!
I dont know how much knitting will get done but it will be fun

165 no I havent lost any more weight... But its getting warmer so maybe I will go outside more:) Have I mentioned losing weight is hard when you are lazy ??

So this weekend was BUSY yet again.

I got 2 projects done in the knitting area. One was a penguin (sorry no picture - i finished it and then we needed to leave) that was given to the birthday girl. We got to the party around 1230 it was nice. Silver seemed to have fun even though we were in the middle of her nap time:) She and Erin and Grace all played well together. Well, as well as 2 2 yrs old and a 1 yr old can play together.

The other project was the shrug... you remember the bobble shrug? Yes the one I frogged? Yes well that one has been remade into something its new owner actually likes and will enjoy :) I finished it saturday evening at a party for my former roommates D- DAY party. (Is she officially divorced? I dunno I kinda forgot to ask - there was wine involved:) )

Anyway no I dont have a picture of that either because I forgot to take my camera:)
Oh well...

Its march this weekend is St Patricks Day I cant wait. My parents get the munchkin for the weekend and Josh and I get to go out and be adult like:)

Oh yeah I won sock yarn from Rebekah
its pretty and came in a neat bag. I need to take pictures- hopefully I will remember tonight.
Its in a neat colorway that will make nice socks for the munchkin.

Busy Busy Busy.....

Ok so I dont know what I weigh although the other day I weighed myself and I was 163 but yesterday I was at 165.

Busy Busy Busy.

March is so busy. I have something going on every weekend this month.

But I do have some knitting news and more pics for you.

Yesterday was so warm - we dressed Silver in Warm weather clothes.

Now for knitting content-

My Dad as you know went through chemo last year and lost all of his hair so I made him a hat.

He has been wearing a Navy watch cap which is made of wool. (ITCHY!) and it is very bulky so I made him a hat he can wear around the house. Its black microspun and is so soft and perfect for wearing against sensitive skin. He likes and wore it as soon as I gave it to him- and then showed my mom:) Hehe I was actually able to knit my dad something he would wear:) yay!

And my cousin's friend is going to be going through chemo so I made her a cap as well. My cousin doesn't know I made this but since she doesnt read this it will still be a surprise. The picture makes it look blue but its really a dark purple.

And thats my big ol' head its on. But I have to thank Rebekah for the inspiration of knitting chemo caps.

Thanks Rebekah hope all is well with you and Nick - oh and if you didnt know shes making a blanket and needs help. So go make some squares :)

Ok that is all I have for you today - I will continue to try and update once a week. I didnt have internet connection for 3 days at home though so um yeah... but its all fixed now.

Silver is 2 and Ive lost more weight...

164 is what I weighed this morning. Although 1lb of that was lost last night, while throwing up everything I ate yesterday.

So silver is 2 years old today. Here are some pictures of her party yesterday.

So friday was a little hectic.

I weighed myself on Saturday. But I have gained 2lbs. I now weigh 167.

It kinda sucks but I think when its 14 degrees farenheit outside it is hard to lose weight no matter what you do. But I have not given up. I am still trying to move and still trying to eat ok. Although we did have a party on Sunday and well the cake alone I probably gained more weight but I am not weighing myself again until Friday.

I will just continue to try and do better. It is supposed to get into the 40's tomorrow. Which after 3-4 weeks of below freezing weather it will feel quite balmy:) So maybe I will get outside and walk around some with the dog and maybe the munchkin. But most likely that wont happen until it starts to stay lighter longer.

On the knitting front I have finished my chemo cap for the YFC challenge Rebekah is holding and I have mailed it. She should get it sometime this week : )

I have not bought yarn since december. So this is good:)
So I still have 2 free days to use...when I have money that is.

This whole starting a job at the end of a pay cycle sucks. It means I go 2 weeks without getting paid. But its ok. It will all be good. We have a bit of savings to make up for it.

The new job is going well I think I mentioned that though. I think I will like the city a bit more when its a little warmer :)

I will try and be better about updating. Just know that I have been weighing myself and trying to do good. And I still havent had any soda since the end of December.
And as someone commented Yes I thought the weight would just come off also. But it hasnt. Which is ok too because I dont want the weight to come off too fast. Then you end up with weird skin things going on.
Oh I do have a new goal. I want to lose 15 lbs by April 14th. As I have a wedding to go to.
So in the next couple of weeks I will be eating more healthy(which I should be doing anyway) and I will move a lot more.
My co worker is going low carb for Lent. I am not Catholic but I have done the whole Atkins/Low Carb thing and I lasted a week. I lost 7 lbs but I wasnt happy. And why do something if you arent going to be able to stick with it?

Alright all I will try and write later on this week. In the mean time go visit the Yarn Harlot (her link is on the side bar.) She has a funny post.

Wow ok so I have been really busy this week.
On top of not being able to check personal email at work and the ice and snow and everything I forgot to update on Monday.

The new job is going well.
I like it. Its a little weird with the scheduling but thats ok.

Sunday is 1 of 2 parties for my daughters 2nd birthday. I decided to split the parties up this year friends one weekend family the next because my family is so darned big.

But it should be a good time.

I finished the dog sweater I was making I finished a bunch of pieces for the Blanket of Hope and I started a chemo cap.
That one is slow going because I really shouldnt knit at work:)

Friday Weight Loss and Last day of job

165 I am still 165 but thats ok its 10 pounds lighter then a month ago.
I have kinda slacked on the exercising this week as my schedule has been all funky but I will start up again in full force once things get back on track.

I start my new job on monday. I am so excited. I will make sure y'all here all about it on Monday:)

Last but not least check out Rebekah's blog at http://knit-knack.blog-city.com she is making a blanket of hope for someone she knows who has Lymphoma its cancer of the lymph nodes. Which if you dont know, lymphnodes are all over your body and this cancer is awful not that any of it is good. But if you knit or I am assuming crochet... make a piece. It doesnt have to be square it can be any shape or size as long as it is wool/animal fiber.

I am making a couple of pieces and so is Ilanna
So check it out and if you can help that would be awesome because this guy is tall he is 6'4".

its monday

And there is a lot to talk about.

First this one is short. The COLTS WON!!! yay! but i missed the halftime show which was Prince who I love. But my daughter was ready to go and I didn't want a meltdown so we left and I missed it. But I did catch some of it on youtube. I love the marching band with the glow in the dark stripes. And any time Prince makes love to his guitar you know its a good show.

Second. I have finally bought a scale for home so I can weigh myself Au natural now. I got a baseline this morning and I am at 165lbs. (that's even after all the crap I ate at the Superbowl party.) So my goal for February since there is a lot going is to lose 5 lbs. I want to be 160 by march. Since I start a new a job on the 12th, I have two birthday parties to plan and attend for Silver. One for friends and one for family. I don't expect much out of myself. The biggest thing I am doing is trying to cut down on my portion sizes and eat less carbs, (i love pasta and bread) and move more. That brings us to our third topic.

Third. Is heart disease awareness. As I said last week the number 1 killer of Women in the US is Heart Disease. This disease is brought on by many factors. 1 of course is genetics. but the others are mostly environmental or things you can change.
The #1 thing to do is if you smoke - QUIT!. The way to do this ? Cold turkey baby. It takes two weeks to get rid of the nicotine in your system the rest is all mental.
The #2 thing is to Move More. Just move 15 minutes a day, go for a walk, ride a bike, do jumping jacks, chase your kids or your pets around the house. Just exercise. We all hear these articles that Americans are all overweight and obese and all of that. The way to fix it is to just move. I have started exercising while watching TV. While interspersed with knitting. I exercise for a few minutes and then take a break. But you can do whatever you want as long as you are moving and getting the blood moving. Park farther away from the door, take the stairs. Join a gym that has a pool.
#3 is to eat healthier. Stop going to McDonald's and fast food restaurants. They lure you in with those salads which are not very healthy either. And those gourmet deli sandwiches? They are better than the quadruple heart attack on a bun but they are still not good for you. Eat less red meat and more poultry and fish.

I have joined a knit along that is ongoing and its Knit Red. You just knit something red. You can wear it yourself, donate it to someone. And it doesn't even really have to be knit.
But I suppose you wonder why I am harping on this? My biological mom died at the age of 40 because of a genetic heart problem (but its still considered heart disease). My step-grandfather had multiple strokes throughout his life before he died. One of those strokes left him paralyzed for life, another one of those strokes left him with the inability to speak. Another one made him fall and he needed knee surgery at the age of 82. He died at the age of 85.

Think on this strokes may not kill you but they can cause severe brain damage and paralysis. If you had a way to stop that wouldn't you take it?

Now some of things I have learned while trying to lose weight is that eating healthy out can be expensive. But if you buy all of it at the grocery store and bring it home its much cheaper.

Lost weight

167 thats right 167. And the total up there says it all 8lbs. I reached my goal of being under 170 for the month of January.

so i am excited about that of course.

Also I havent been able to login in awhile because blogger has been weird and I have been busy.

However I am doing well. The knitting thing is going well. The dog sweater I was making is just about finished. The knitting part is done but the finishing part needs to be finished. it needs the ends woven in and the velcro attached.

I have picked up the old jacket from last years Knitting Olympics. Hopefully I will get it finished soon:)

The Super Bowl is this weekend I cant wait. Go Colts!!

I did mail off the red scarf for those of you who were wondering.

But I have a few other things that need to be mailed off but I dont have the fundage at this point. Soon.

Oh yeah for those who dont know I got the job. I will be leaving here and starting on Feb 12th. Full time baby! with Bennies! I will have real PTO !! yay!
Also and this may not seem odd to most of you but in my profession it is the majority of the people on my new team are women. I think there are 2 guys on the helpdesk out of like 9 people. This is going to be a new experience for me as I am used to working with guys. But since I know one of them and she has pretty much helped build the team I think it will be ok.

A birthday party.

First I have not lost weight I am still at 171. But I still have had no soda.

Yesterday was my friend Ilanna's birthday party. Go wish her a happy birthday. For the geeks out there it was her Meaning of Life minus 10 birthday party.

But I have pictures. I made her a cupcake.

its the kind that wont ruin her diet:)

And a good time was had by all.

Exercise is the key

However I have been really bad about exercising. I thought that just by eliminating the soda in my diet I would lose the weight just like that.
Well guess what its been over 3 weeks and I have not lost the weight just like that. Even though I have been trying to eat healthier and not drink any soda.

So now I need to exercise everyday.
But that cuts into my knitting time... and family time... and oh alright I will stop making excuses. :)
I will start exercising I just need to work out a plan:)

Oh yeah so the Super Bowl is going to be Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears.
I know some of you didnt care and well Now I dont really either but since I picked them to go to the Big game - I will be routing for the Colts.
Sorry Shporto. I know you wanted your pats to go but well it was a case of Hometown calls yesterday in both games.
But you can route for the Colts with me if you want ;)

well I have not lost any weight. but i have not gained any either.

but i really think I need to step up the exercising. i think that will help the no soda thing.

but i do feel better and i am taking vitamins again which is good because we all know that while i dont bad i dont necessarily eat everything i should either:)

My Pants dont fit

Ok I know fridays are for weight updates but well my pants dont fit.

I mean Thursday I wore these pants and they were loose but not that bad. Today well today I had to find a safety pin so they wouldnt fall off.
So guess what that means ?? Im losing weight.
Oh and I hate portion control. But I am doing ok with it. I just am still hungry after I eat so I have been munching on good things. Fruit or Veggies. And LOTS of water.

This weekend was accomplishment weekend. I finished the knitting the shrug for my friend. I finished knitting the wrap for my other friend. And I finally started on a blanket that I should have started in Jan 2006.
But the blanket was slow going as I was watching 24 and the knitting needs to be mindless for that show and this wasnt so I had to rip out one whole section urgh!
oh well.

so i need to remember mindless knitting on mondays

tomorrow is my job interview for a bank in Wilmington for their helpdesk. its going to be four hours. with different people and an assessment of some sort. but im excited. the prospect of a FT job with benefits is wonderful.

I LOST WEIGHT UPDATE

170 lbs
14days without soda

Okay so I am actually writing on the day I am supposed to.

According to the scale at work I have lost 5 lbs...
I have cut out soda completely. I have added a little bit of caffeinated tea in the morning but instead of the 32oz I am sticking with the smallest size possible. Sometimes that is 16 oz and sometimes 12oz - I never realized how hard it would be to find 8 oz cups. Oh well. Anyway I am determined to only put ONE packet/teaspoon of sugar in my tea no matter what the size. This hard for me as I usually put 4 or 5. But I am trying to cut back on the sugar dammit.

But Do you know what today is? 2 weeks without a soda. Go me Go me :)

Knitting - yeah not much to report. I am signed up for the Yarn Focus Challenge (check it out over on http://knit-knack.blog-city.com) I need to get a ticker. Anyway I am not allowed to buy any yarn and must knit only from my stash. I get 3 free days. Now the kicker to this is I must provide sock yarn. Since we all know my feelings on socks guess what I am going to be buying soon - yup sock yarn.

The challenge starts Monday. I should be able to do this.

So I wanted to share about my ongoing self improvement so to speak.
And it couldnt wait till Friday because I will forget:)

I started stretching the other day before I go to bed and doing some push-ups and what I have found is 1- I am REALLY OUT OF SHAPE! 2 -after stretching- my back doesnt hurt anymore when I lay down. I used to be in a lot of pain when laying down at night. So now I have learned... Stretch before bed and after waking....:) And today my back doesnt hurt.
For the last 6 months I have a dull ache in my back because of one thing or another. And now today walking around I was trying to figure out what was wrong and it was that there is no pain in my lower back. Holy Cow... who knew that stretching would fix that?

Honey dont get excited I still need to go the back cracker voodoo doctor (or as everyone else knows him as the Chiropractor) because my shoulder and ankle still bother me. But this means I dont have to go as often:)

Knitting news=
I started on a new shawl/wrap for another friend of mine after having to rip the whole thing out. She didnt like it and hey I dont want someone to keep something if they dont like it you know?
So this is an addition to the other shawl/wrap I am making for the end of this month. I am hoping to have it done before then but my knitting time is severely limited since I am trying to go to bed earlier because I am not feeling all that well...

So J- you may get your shawl this weekend but most likely it will be a birthday present.

Weight Update : Late I know

173 lb as of 01/08/07

11 days without soda/caffeine. and hubby says im cranky but other than that im not experiencing any other withdrawals.

Ok so I was really busy on Friday and I forgot to update.

Anyway I weighed myself this morning and this is what I weighed

So I have not updated the ticker as I have not lost any weight since last update.

However I will try and remember to update on Fridays like originally promised.

I am moving more. Saturday I played Dance Dance Revolution in the morning for like an hour... I love that game:)
I just need to play it more during the week. Look a way for me to be a geek and get my exercise:) YAY!

On the knitting front the shawl take two is coming along nicely. I dont know if I told the story but new years eve my daughter decided to pull the needles out of the shawl and because it was lace and I had no life line I had to rip it out completely and start over. I have pictures of the aftermath... sigh. But I am now further along then I was when she pulled out the needles so all is good.

I have 3 projects in the wings
2 christmas stockings
1 wrap sort of thing
1 blanket

These things I must get done this year. And I am so going to not try and do anything else until these projects are finished.
:) yeah wish me luck with that;)

Weight Loss problem

UPDATED: So I decided to change the weight. But I still wanted to be honest with everyone so I left this post up. But you will notice the changes. I decided to put my starting weight at 175 because when I weighed myself last week I did weigh 176. Hope you all are ok with this.

Ok so I figured out something - The scale I weighed myself on the other day must have been WAY OFF.

It said 181 and I was wearing sneakers not my boots...
Because this week I have weighed myself 3 times on the same scale and it says 173lbs. all 3 times. (different days)

Now the question is do I leave my starting weight at 181? move it to 176 (last week I was 176) or just update the ticker tomorrow with whatever the scale says?

I have decided to use the scale at work as it is not digital but a balance - like the ones in the dr's office. And therefore I think more accurate...

I have been weighing myself everyday even though I will only update on the blog once a week with the weight loss.

So what do you guys think?
By the way today marks a week since I had a soda. I had a beer last night but other than that I have been drinking mostly water.

No real knitting news except for the fact that my daughter pulled out the needles on a lace shawl that i was knitting so I had to rip the whole thing out and start over.
Sigh. Oh well... But I am almost back to where I was before she pulled the needles out.
I will post pics later as I forgot to bring my camera with me today.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! and a resolution

Hello and happy new year.

I hope everyone had a good time and didnt drink too much.

I have a made a resolution this year.

Its actually a complex resolution.

I have decided I want to lose weight. This year I want to lose 25-30 pounds.
I have started this resolution by cutting out soda.

Now this is always hard for me because there are several things I need to do to lose weight.
#1 move more...or the awful word exercise.
#2 eat better...- ok i dont really eat bad - i just need to cut out the bad stuff i do eat.
#3 cut out sodas. not only does the caffeine become addictive but one 12 oz can has a cup of sugar in it. that is the equivalent of pouring a cup of sugar or 16 packets of sugar in 8 oz of water and mixing it all up and drinking it.
#4 i want to join a gym - im trying to save. (thats hard)

but i want to lose the weight so i will post it here and weekly - my current weight is 181lbs.
I am 5'3". my BMI is 31 a healthy BMI is 24
a healthy weight range for my height is from 105-140.

(this year obviously im shooting for about 160 but losing weight will help me feel better. I was 140 before I had my daughter and a size 12 - I would like to get back to that by the end of the year but I am setting realistic goals. )

So right now my Goal is to hit 160 by the end of the year.

By the end of January I would like to be 175.

so i will post weekly what my weight is -every friday.

so i need your help. i am allowing myself one beer on wednesdays (thats when we go to dinner)

other than that water, milk or decaf tea with only 2 teaspoons of sugar (instead of like the 4 i usually put in)

but the goal is too cut out as much refined sugar as possible and to just be healthier.

i will set other goals for myself as time goes on.

Mine was.
My daughter got a bunch of toys and clothes and so did I. Ok really I just clothes and shoes. Which I needed:) Welcome to being an adult.

I just had a little rant - not really a rant but an observation.

When you look at a commercial what do you see?

For example there is a football commercial on right now for the NFLshop.com
It says you couldnt make it in the NFL but you can the equipment the pros wear...
But before this
You see a a big athletic man with a jersey on and a dislocated finger sitting on a bench

Then you see a short man in sweats looks a little out of shape average guy on the next bench.

They reset the first guys finger and it barely flinches and the other guy faints and falls off the bench.

This commercial makes me laugh every time. Knowing that many people would be like that.
This is how I see the commercial. My in-laws and most likely my father who are from a different generation then me see this commercial like this.

There is a big black athletic man with a jersey on and a dislocated finger sitting on a bench

Do you see the difference? I have watched that commercial multiple times and their race never occurred to me. I saw three people. But my in-laws saw the different colors. And the only reason I bring it up is because they then asked if someone was trying to make a racial statement.

I just dont get it.

Holidays

Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Merry Yule, Happy Kwanzaa, and Happy whatever else is that it may be that is being celebrated this week.

I am almost done shopping and wrapping presents.

But I had to share a cute story with you.
This morning on the way to daycare there was a commercial on the radio of little kids singing their version on Jingle Bells. I think its a volvo commercial but I am not sure.
But its a cute commercial nonetheless. But as I turned off the car I could here my daughter singing also. At the end of the commercial the little boy and girl are going oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh ohhhh... to the tune of Jingle bells because they cant remember the words.

Well my daughter was singing along. I turned off the radio and went to get her out of the car seat and she was still singing. It was so freaking cute.

Anyway that is your holiday story.

I have been so busy.

I have had parties to attend and knitting to do.
And just been all around busy busy busy.

I have some interesting things to show you unfortunately none of the pictures came to work with me today.
But here is the list of things I have made.

I made a little sweater ornament
A little mitten ornament
A mitten ornament out of cross connect cable (phone wire) and a stripped ethernet cable(network).
I have also made 2 hats. 1 is going to Knittyotter for her Dulaan project and 1 was my hubby's hannukah present.
Also I have made some dishcloths for my mother. i think i want to make a couple more for others.

And I want to make a sweater for my SIL's new addition due in February. They are having a boy.

Um other than that not much else is going on. The redskins won yesterday (i know not much football news lately because well the 'skins arent doing to well) - we still are not going to playoffs.
So now I need to hold out hope for the Seahawks.
But they had a tough schedule. So we shall see. Go HAWKS.

The new job is awesome. I travel a bit and am not at a desk of my own for most of the day. So updates, email responses etc will be a bit delayed.

I have a pic of the penguin I made the other day and will hopefully be delivered to its new owner on Friday. I will post the picture later today when I get home:)

Lets see it is now the holiday season and I have lots to do - lots of parties to go and a couple of knitted items that i need to do.

i have a birthday party to go to on Sunday... I just want those to know you do realize I love you guys right? because you scheduled a 2 yr olds birthday party during football on a sunday...in december...

anyway i start my new job on monday. i expect my stress level and blood pressure levels to go down.

Tuesday...1 day closer to freedom

anyway so as you all know i am leaving my current job for a myriad of reasons.

i had a talk with my bosses boss yesterday and basically told her everything thats been going on since september including all of the non technical things that have been occurring. she seemed very receptive and understanding and she seemed to know a lot of what i had to say already. i was just validating what she already knew.

this makes me feel better that this place doesnt have two clueless people running it.

but i know why you really came here ... i finished the penguin last night while watching the seahawks beat green bay. it was not a resounding defeat as both teams turned the ball over 4 times. but seattle did win by 10pts. And shaun alexander looked like he had never broken his ankle. oh yeah and it was 35 degrees and snowing in seattle last night... um i didnt think it snowed in seattle;)

at any rate without further ado a penguin in a tree....

You have provided support and words of wisdom and wtf's throughout the year.
I appreciate the feedback I get from you my internet friends. Some of you I know and some of you I only know through cyberville. And I hope to one day meet all of you but until that day I will embarrass my daughter throughout the years by posting awesomely cute pictures of her to share.

She is the light of my life even though she doesnt listen and has a will of her own. I am eternally thankful for her and my husband. I love both of them more than words can say. Even though I sometimes get frustrated, angry or upset or cry for no reason I will never stop loving either one of them.

Here is my munchkin playing with the dog food she just spilled all over the kitchen floor.

And yes there was knitting and there will be pictures of something else later but I am not done yet.
Here are the socks and they are finished awaiting their owner. These will hopefully be mailed before christmas:)

oh yeah did i mention we got a christmas tree?

did i mention my hubby is jewish?

but it was 38 dollars from kmart and its 6ft and prelit.

unfortunately because my munchkin is 32" tall give or take (thats almost 3ft) we can only decorate the top half of the tree.

and because we needed to by the christmas gifts this weekend i am no longer able to afford to join a gym ( for those who were keeping track.) hopefully next month but who knows.

keeping my fingers crossed for being able to save money. i really want the pool.

Hi Everyone!
Happy Thanksgiving.

I got the job that is closer to home and I start Monday Dec 4th.

As you all know there are many reasons I am switching jobs but mostly the commute and my boss.
